Awesome! Though doesn't look like anyone I can think of in the book. And one more thing: THIS HAND OF MINE IS BURNING RED!!!! IT'S LOUD ROAR TELLS ME TO GRASP VICTORY!!! ERUPTING! BURNING! FINGEEEERRRRRRRR!!!!!!!! lol sorry, had to get that out.
I love the subject and focus of the piece, the color's attributes are wonderfully ephemeral and other-worldy. Having read the book, the only thing I would add or suggest would be that the prism can utilize all colors of the spectrum blue, green, yellow, ultraviolet and so on, not just red.
The biggest issue with the official cover versus this one, is that the author rarely gets to choose what does go on the cover of their book. The illustrator is given a snippet from the story, and told to draw a cover based on that. :/
So, this is why we have, on the cover, a Gavin that does not look like Gavin. I didn't know until I read the full thing that the guy even had red hair, thanks to the above.
But man, do I wish this was the real cover! Brilliantly done!
The flow of this picture is great. It almost looks like he's underwater. I especially like the nearly grayscale colors with the splash of red. Also, the plainness of his clothes and the detail of the sheaths and belt are really nice together.
